EDS-2005-EL Overview

Introduction

The SC10E4 Serial to Ethernet Device Server is a foundational solution designed to seamlessly integrate legacy serial-based equipment into modern LAN environments. It provides a reliable and straightforward method for enabling network connectivity for devices that traditionally rely on serial communication, bridging the gap between older hardware and contemporary network infrastructure.

The core function of the SC10E4 is to convert serial data from up to four devices for transmission over an Ethernet network. This allows for remote access, management, and monitoring of equipment such as access controllers, fire alarm panels, and industrial automation products from any point on the LAN. The device server empowers users to run serial port communications over long distances via the network infrastructure. By utilizing a Virtual COM port utility, it can connect protocol-independent serial devices over the LAN, link multiple serial devices together, or facilitate remote management of a single serial device over Ethernet, offering significant operational flexibility.
