EDS-2005-EL Overview

Introduction

In industrial networking, the integrity of the "edge-to-core" transition is the primary determinant of system uptime. For mission-critical sectors such as rail transit, mining, and power distribution, communication infrastructure must provide deterministic data delivery for PLC and I/O traffic despite extreme thermal fluctuations and high electromagnetic interference. The IES 104-1F Industrial Ethernet Switch is architected as a hardened point of convergence, ensuring that localized field data is reliably backhauled to the network backbone under conditions where commercial-grade hardware would suffer catastrophic failure.

The IES 104-1F is an unmanaged 10/100M Industrial Ethernet Fiber Switch, providing a focused port density for edge deployments. The hardware configuration consists of four 10/100Base-TX RJ45 copper ports and one dedicated 155M SC fiber uplink port. This fixed-port architecture is designed for seamless integration of localized Ethernet-ready field devices into a long-haul fiber-optic infrastructure, providing a balanced, low-latency path for industrial data streams.

Resilience is achieved through a maintenance-free design lifecycle. The device is housed in a ruggedized IP40-rated metal enclosure and utilizes a fanless cooling architecture, eliminating the primary mechanical failure points associated with high-vibration and dusty environments. This passive thermal management, combined with industrial-grade silicon, results in a calculated Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 35 years, ensuring long-term reliability in the extended deployment cycles typical of heavy infrastructure.
