Introduction

The San Telequip RIO884 is an industrial-grade I/O module designed to serve as a critical link between field devices and supervisory control systems. Its primary role is to monitor a diverse range of physical inputs and manage control outputs within industrial environments. Functioning as a Modbus RTU slave, the RIO884 seamlessly integrates analog and digital signals into a broader SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) network, making it a strategic component for data acquisition and control applications housed within industrial panels.

At its core, the RIO884 provides a high-density interface for converting physical signals into a digital format accessible over a standard communication protocol. It is engineered to process up to 8 Analog Inputs and 8 Digital Inputs from field sensors and devices, and to control 4 Digital Outputs. This consolidated data is then made available to a Modbus Master via a robust RS485 serial connection. The unit is specifically designed for integration into common industrial control systems, operating on a standard 24V DC power supply.

The typical application architecture, as illustrated in the diagram below, positions the RIO884 as a central data concentrator. Signals from various Field inputs are wired directly to the device's I/O terminals. The RIO884 processes these 8 AI, 8 DI, and 4 DO signals and translates their status into Modbus registers. This information is then transmitted over an RS485 link to a Modbus Master, which could be a PLC, HMI, or SCADA server, enabling centralized monitoring and control.
