The San Telequip SC09FSS is a specialized serial to fiber optic converter designed to extend serial communication links in challenging industrial environments. It provides a robust and reliable solution to the critical problem of signal degradation over long distances, particularly in settings with significant electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI). By converting electrical serial signals to optical signals, the SC09FSS series ensures data integrity and enables secure communication across expansive operational areas where traditional copper cabling would be impractical or unreliable.

At its core, the converter's primary function is to create a seamless connection between RS232, RS422, and RS485 devices using a fiber optic link. This capability economically and efficiently extends serial communications up to 2 kilometers over multi-mode fiber or up to an extensive 100 kilometers using single-mode fiber. The SC09FSS series supports high-speed data transmission, with rates of up to 460 kbps (500 kbps peak) for RS422/RS485 interfaces and 115.2 kbps for RS232, ensuring that performance is not compromised for distance.
